Over the last half-century, most Michigan governors upon leaving office have gone into or sought another form of public service. The last one, Democrat Jennifer Granholm (2003-2010), is blazing into the public light with a sprightly talk show gig on California-based national cable TV.

Dear Mark: Please settle a disagreement between my brother and me. My brother thinks he has better odds against the house at blackjack playing out of a shoe with several decks. It was nice to see Mary Nordquist a couple of days ago, driving from up north of town to the post office. She was dressed so warmly and had a really cute pair of earmuffs on. She is always so friendly.
