DeTour Area
Once again last weekend we received a pretty fair amount of snow. This snowfall came at the right time for DeTour Winterfest activities. Plans for the snow sculptures are already in progress. This year’s theme for Winterfest in cartoon characters. It will be interesting to see the ideas that sprout up. Also, the snowmobile trails are in great condition for the runs and everyone is ready for the walk. So don your Mickey Mouse ears and join the fun.
DeTour Winterfest 2005 will be held this Saturday, February 26, with registrations for all the rallies, the chili cook-off entries, arts and crafts show, starting at 10 a.m. in the DeTour Village Hall.
If you plan to enter your chili for the contest, please call Annalee at the Dockside Cafe to register at (906) 297-5165. It is important to know the number of chili entries that will be judged. Please have your chili at the hall before 10 a.m. on Saturday. Once again, a reminder, no wild game is to be used in your recipe.
Another popular event sponsored by the DeTour Hunt and Fish Club is the fishing tournament, which will be held Saturday, February 26, starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. and on Sunday, February 27, the hours are from 7 a.m. to noon. This tournament takes place on Caribou Lake.
Registration will be held at the trailer at the turnaround on South Caribou Lake Road. The registration fee is $10. There will be food and beverages at the trailer.
Awards will be presented at the Club House Sunday at 2 p.m. Drawings for prizes and the 50/50 raffle will be held at this time. Fifty percent of the money will be split for the largest of different kinds of fish. The Hunt and Fish Club is located on South Caribou Lake Road and Airport Road. The day will continue with a dance at the Fogcutter Bar from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., with music provided by Gary VanAlstine and group. Also featured will be a cartoon character costume contest.
“Da Yoopers” Red Hat Society held a February luncheon meeting at the Fogcutter Bar, hosted by Norma Cross-Landreville and Kathy Brady. Talented Dorothy Wojnaroski showed her latest artistic talents and also demonstrated a few helpful household hints. Marilyn Grevel won the door prize. Of course, the color was purple. Plans are already in progress for summer trips.
You are invited to attend the 75th birthday party for Floyd “Stu” Soule Sunday, February 27, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Village Hall. The family encourages everyone to stop by to wish Floyd a happy birthday. Cake, coffee, and refreshments will be provided. Many happy returns Floyd.
Congratulations to Jeremy Burton and C.J. Spohn, who were crowned King and Queen of the Snowball Dance last Saturday night at DeTour High. All the gals and guys looked stunning in their lovely attire.
