A few students who participated in the Les Cheneaux Elementary Student Council’s “Nifty Snowman Contest” show their creations, including (back row, from left) Sam Eberts with “Bill,” a fabric and dyed wool snowman, Kirsten Straka with the edible “Birdie Treat,” Mary Eberts and the tie-dyed “That ‘70s Snowman,” Tucker Haske with “Ed” the cookie snowman; (front row) Dylan Mathews with a snowman family, Gabe Miller with “Lego Dude,” Keely Gough with “Pumpkinhead,” another edible snowman, and Bekah Miller with her creation made all of recyclable materials, like milk cartons and a can. Gina Augugliaro’s Red Hat Society snowman and Jonah Miller’s melted “Snowman in Spring” (in a jar), sit in front of the group. The two students were absent the day the photograph was taken. Students were invited to create a snowman of any size, out of any material, and all who participated in the contest got certificates for free ice cream. No winners could be determined “because all the entries were so good and creative,” Student Council Advisor Mary Lindberg said.
