It will be an all-Cheboygan show for the title of Miss Teen Fort Michilimackinac this year, as five students from that town compete for the crown in Mackinaw City Saturday, February 26.

The 33rd Annual Miss Teen Fort Michilimackinac Scholarship Program Pageant will begin at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the James B. Marshall Elementary School in Mackinaw City. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and admission is $5.

Contestants will include Lacey Ann MacLeod, Jade Autumn Schwartz, Samantha Jo Lucier, Laurel Rose Schoenith, and Jeannie Lucille O’Brien. All are students at Cheboygan Area High School.

The theme of this year’s pageant is “The Phantom of the Opera.” The contestants will perform in an opening theme number as well as a masquerade segment after the evening gown competition.

“We are really pumped up about this year’s show,” said Brandy Wolfgram, who is co-directing the pageant with Lisa Halleck. “We’ll have some big surprises. We like Phantom of the Opera, and that’s an appropriate theme for this year. We’ve also added some entertainment we’ve not used before. This is the most excited the production crew has been about the show in many years.”

While there are no entrants from St. Ignace or Mackinaw City this year, the first runner-up i 2004, Jessica Warren of St. Ignace, will reprise her dance solo, which won last year’s creative and performing arts award. The dance will be one of two special entertainment presentations, the other being a dance number performed by younger students training with instructor Jo Cooley.

Reigning queen Katie Smydra of Mackinaw City will crown the new winner.

The queen and first and second runners-up will be selected after judging in the personal interview, informal modeling, creative and performing arts (talent), evening wear, and impromptu question. The queen will receive a monetary scholarship, tiara, crown pin, banner, flowers, trophy, gifts, gift certificates, and savings bonds. Many of the same gifts will also go to the first and second runners-up.

There will also be special awards given for Miss Congeniality, community spirit, academic excellence, and People’s Choice (a penny-per-vote scholarship fundraiser).

The queen and her court will represent Mackinaw City and the Straits Area at festivals, parades, and events and will ride on the Greater Mackinaw Area Chamber of Commerce float at parades. They will reign over Mackinaw City’s Memorial Day weekend historical reenactment at Colonial Michilimackinac and the grand parade.

The pageant is sponsored in part by The Greater Mackinaw Area Chamber of Commerce and The Fort Michilimackinac Pageant, Inc., which produces the reenactment. Michael Modrzynski of Rogers City will return as the emcee.

Contestant Lacey Ann MacLeod, 16, is the daughter of Ron and Sharon MacLeod and is sponsored by Doyle’s Roofing. Jade Autumn Schwartz, 15, is the daughter of Roger and Diane Schwartz and is sponsored by Schwartz’s Boiler Shop. Samantha Jo Lucier, 14, is the daughter of David and Valerie Lucier and is sponsored by Full Circle Contracting and Rivertown Par-T-Port.
