2005-02-24 / News

The third annual science fair and the first social studies fair is being sponsored by the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District at Lake Superior State University in March.

The science fair competition, Wednesday, March 23, is for students in kindergarten thorugh eighth grade and will be based on nationally established criteria with a focus on scientific method, originality, and relevance. Students at this regional fair will have won the science competitions in their own school districts.

The social studies fair, Thursday, March 24, will include students in grades four through 12. Inquiry projects related to civics, history, economics, or geography will be judged for accurate content, presentation, and creativity. Students will write brief descriptions of their projects and will be asked to explain their projects to the judges. Similar to science, local district fairs will determine those students whose project will advance to the regional fair.

Volunteers and judges are sought who are qualified in fields related to science or social studies. If interested, contact Michelle Ribant or Amy Scott at 632-3373, ext. 142.
