Edna Holle
Edna Louise Holle, 99, of Cincinnati, Ohio, enjoyed a 43-year career with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. She did extensive geneaology research for the Luechauer and Holle families and held the distinction in her lifetime of attending the first and the 100th annual reunion of her family. Miss Holle died Thursday, February 10, 2005, under the care of hospice at Mount Airy Mercy Hospital in Cincinnati.
She was born July 28, 1905, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Louis F. and Lydia L. (nee Luechauer) Holle. She attended Hamilton Public Schools and was graduated in 1923 from Hamilton High School as valedictorian, setting a school record for a 94.6 grade average, and was a commencement speaker at her graduation. In 1927, she was graduated from Oberlin College, Phi Beta Kappa, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and German.
Miss Holle had a long career with Ohio National life Insurance Company at the Duttenhoffer Building in downtown Cincinnati, which began when she sought temporary summer employment in the Actuarial Department. In 1944, she was appointed manager of the Actuarial Department, where she contributed 13 years before becoming manager of Policyholder Services in 1957. In 1959, Miss Holle became the company’s first female officer when she was named Assistant Director of Insurance Services. She became Director of Policyholder Services in 1963. She earned a Fellow of the Life Office Management Institute and was an instructor in LOMA classes. She retired in 1970.
Miss Holle was an active member for 49 years of Zonta International, serving as president of the Cincinnati Chapter in 1963 and 1964. She is a past officer of Association for the Blind, a Zonta fundraising recipient. She was a member and Key Woman in the Hyde Park Bethlehem United Methodist Church and attended annual Methodist Church conferences. She served on church boards and was active in her churches as a pianist, Sunday school superintendent, and choir member.
Miss Holle, with her mother, lived in College Hill for 21 years before moving to one of Twin Towers’ patio homes in 1987. She and her mother started the Luechauer and Holle family genealogy books, establishing a connection of the Luechauer family to Mount Healthy, Ohio, upon its 1844 arrival from Mistelbach, Germany.
Miss Holle traveled extensively through Europe and the United States, visiting historical sites and seeking information for geneaology research. She was a frequent visitor to the St. Ignace area.
The year 2004 marked the 100th reunion of the George/Christina Wurth-Luechauer Family and was presented with a bouquet of 100 daisies, the popular flower of the year of her birth. Miss Holle had attended the first reunion as a six-week-old infant.
She is survived by her brother and his family, Dr. Robert and Janis Holle of St. Ignace; a niece, Karen Holle Iannucci; six nephews and their families, the Reverend Eric Holle, Robert Holle, Doug Holle, Richard Holle, Gene Stanley, and Colonel Curtis Cheeseman; several great-nieces and great-nephews; a special cousin and her family, Vera Hecht Lambert; and many loving relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Howard, 1908-1913, who died in the 1913 flood on the Miami River at Hamilton, Ohio.
Services were held at Twin Towers All Faiths Chapel in Cincinnati, with burial in the family plot at Bevis Cemetery in Cincinnati.
