Andrew “Andy” Politis
Andrew "Andy" Politis of Powell, Ohio, was a longtime visitor to the Les Cheneaux Islands, where he spent vacations. Family members said the area held a "very special place in his heart."
Mr. Politis died at the age of 71 Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at the James Cancer Hospital of the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born April 21, 1933, in Hoboken, New Jersey, to John and Sophia (nee Theophilus) Politis, and he was reared in Brooklyn, New York.
He was graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute (now Brooklyn Polytechnic University) of New York, and was a long-standing member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
Mr. Politis worked as an electrical engineer and manager of the system protection section for American Electric Power. He worked 40 years for American Electric, and retired 10 years ago.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife and particularly looked forward to his vacations in Cedarville. He also enjoyed a good bridge game, friends said, "but most of all, he enjoyed being a 'grandpa.'"
Mr. Politis is survived by his wife, Carol (nee Markey); two daughters and their families, Andrea and Michael McRee of Chowchilla, California, and Laurel Politis of Dublin, Ohio; a grandson and granddaughter, Jack McRee and Claire Elizabeth Oakes; a sister and her family, Catina Poulos of North Bergen, New Jersey; brothers-in-law and their families, Jake Markey of DeWitt and Kelly and Rene Markey of Sacramento, California; his mother-in-law, Ann Markey of Columbus, Ohio, and a step-mother-in-law, Blanche Markey of Cedarville.
A memorial service was held at Rutherford Funeral Home Monday, February 7.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia Research Department of The James Cancer Hospital, 300 West 10th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43210.
