Lady Eagles Volleyball Stays in EUPC Championship Hunt

Engadine varsity volleyball team stayed in the hunt for at least a share of the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference championship with road wins of 27-25, 22-25, 25-23, and 25-22 over Brimley.

"The match was very competitive and both teams played well," said Eagles Coach Kathy Miller. "It's always nice to win on the road, especially when it's a conference match."

The Eagles final EUPC match was scheduled to be played Monday, February 21, at Cedarville. Engadine, 5-2 in the league and 20-10-1 overall, must win to force a co-championship with the Trojans.

Rose Paquin led the Lady Eagles with 18 serves, four aces, 22 attacks, 21 passes, four digs, 12 kills, and one block. Shaylin Peters added 17 serves, four aces, 53 sets, and 14 assists. Andrea Miller chipped in 17 serves, one ace, 48 sets, and nine assists. Elicia Derusha notched 13 serves, one ace, 35 attacks, 13 kills, 23 passes, six digs, seven blocks, and one block kill. Nicole Benoit tallied 12 serves, two aces, 21 attacks, seven kills, 14 passes, and four digs. Whittney Kerridge charted eight attacks and two kills, Kristyn Emery marked 15 passes and one dig, Desi Derusha recorded three blocks, and Erica Germain registered one block kill.

Engadine varsity volleyball team defeated DeTour in three matches, 25-12, 25-17, and 25-13, in Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference competition, but suffered 19-25, 22-25, 21-25 setbacks at the hands of Big Bay de Noc Tuesday, February 15.

"We played earlier in the evening with DeTour and won three straight, but against Big Bay de Noc, the Black Bears took us out of our game with their style of play," said Eagles Coach Kathy Miller.

"We need to learn to respond to whatever is thrown at us, and to remain positive."

In the two matches, Jazmin Rodriquez led the Lady Eagles with 30 serves, five aces, 26 passes, 11 digs, three attacks, and one kill. Rose Paquin added 19 serves, eight aces, 30 attacks, 12 kills, 34 passes, nine digs, and two blocks. Elicia Derusha chipped in 19 serves, five aces, 30 attacks, nine kills, three blocks, and one block kill. Shaylin Peters notched 14 serves, four aces, 61 sets, and 13 assists. Whittney Kerridge tallied 14 serves, one ace, 13 passes, and eight digs. Andrea Miller charted 32 sets and seven assists, Kristyn Emery counted eight attacks and one kill, and Jolene Barens marked three attacks and one kill.
