The Village and those involved are rebounding from the devastating fire that took place at the DeTour Village Motel early Sunday morning, April 10. The fire wiped out all the units located on one side. There were no fatalities, of which everyone is extremely thankful. The McGuire house next to the motel had extensive damage. Their car in the driveway was completely demolished. The Dockside Cafe had cracked windows and melted wires from the heat of the fire.

Special thanks to the DeTour Volunteer Department and the Raber Fire Department for their excellent job in containing the fire from spreading and doing more damage than already done. The men came upon the scene around 2 a.m. and were there until 11 a.m. Their dedication to their volunteer wok was outstanding.

The DeTour Homemakers are planning a community shower for those who lost so much in the fire. The shower will be at the DeTour Memorial Hall (Senior Citizen Hall) on Dawson Street Wednesday, April 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The recipients will include Annalee Buschbacher, Bill and Gail McGuire, Jody Zalewski, Chris Behrens, and Bud Munro. There will be five places set up in the hall to leave your donation, monetary or otherwise. A light meal and refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there. The community has lost yet another landmark.

On a lighter note, the women of DeTour Union Presbyterian Church will hold their annual Birthday Banquet Friday, April 22, at 6 p.m. This banquet is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at the door at $6 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under. The menu includes top of the round with all the trimmings, veggies, salad, dessert. There will also be entertainment, which will be a surprise. We all look forward to this annual banquet as the Presbyterian women do such a wonderful job in preparation. Come early and enjoy.

The Community Choir had its first rehearsal last week. There is plenty of time for you to join the choir and be a part of the wonderful performance of great music. The choir meets on Tuesday evenings at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 6:30 p.m. This year's choir director is Jean Bloom.

There will be summer dinner theater in DeTour in June. Dave Rhinard will be directing "The Cemetery Club," a play that is very amusing. This is one event in DeTour you will not want to miss. I will have more information at a later date.

Coming up toward the end of the month is the annual Cloverland Electric Co-Op A meeting to be held in the multi-purpose room at DeTour School. The date is Tuesday, April 26, at 6 p.m. See you there.

A thought: Each kindly act you do will bring kindness back to you.
