This week J. Burnett and Co. took up and thawed out the pipe leading from the water main to the First National Bank building, which had been frozen since last March 1.
It cost $15,000 to run St. Ignace last year, but no town in the upper country made more public improvements with the same amount of wealth.
On Monday last, Governor Williams issued a proclamation designating Thursday, April 30, as Arbor Day.
The first arrival of the season was a Mackinaw boat from Prentiss Bay on Wednesday last.

P. Mertaugh of Hessel is in the city on business this week.
A.E. Corp , Ben Corp, and E.J. LaChapelle were business visitors from Gros Cap on Tuesday.
Mrs. Pettigill, Mrs. Bert Boynton, and Mrs. Robertson were passengers on the Chief Wawatam, which left Monday for Toledo. Mrs. Pettigill and Mrs. Boynton will visit friends in Cleveland while the Chief is undergoing repairs.

Salk polio vaccine is safe, effective, and potent and the first clinic in Mackinac County will be held Monday, April 25, in St. Ignace.
Senator Pat McNamara has announced the establishment of aids for navigation in the Les Cheneaux Islands area. The project will provide for the establishment and operation of 11 lighted buoys and 27 unlighted buoys at an estimated total cost of $20,000. The buoys will mark the channel extending from the eastern to the western entrance of Les Cheneaux Islands, including the middle entrance.
To follow are some of the television shows on Channel 7: Deputy Don, Howdy Doody, Mr. Wizard, Trouble with Father, Hopalong Cassidy, Candid Camera, Hit Parade, Michigan Conservation, and Paul Bunyan Theatre.
Big news in Cedarville this week was the opening Saturday, April 16, of Port Dolomite and first shipment of limestone from the Cedarville quarry. The steamer Calcite was selected to carry the first cargo.

Named king and queen at the annual snowball dance held April 7 at Detour High School were senior Bill Moser and sophomore Shelly Fisher.
Rosemary Stevenson, who graduated from Pickford High School, played professional baseball in 1954 in the short-lived women’s professional baseball league. She was inducted into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame, April 7.
Perch fishing was active and well Saturday, April 12, on Cedarville Bay. One man from Rogers City caught more than 80 perch, all eight inches and longer.
