Families With Young Children Invited To Free Childhood Fair in St. Ignace Saturday
Families with young children are invited to participate in the Second Annual Children’s Spring Celebration Fair Saturday, April 23, at LaSalle High School in St. Ignace. The fair, offered free of charge from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is geared to families with children up to age 8 and will feature food and health demonstrations, crafts, prizes, face painting, a cupcake walk, and a visit from Smokey the Bear.
The event is planned to provide parents with information about the wealth of programs and services available to children and young families in the community, said organizer Trudy Peltier.
Representatives of many local agencies are working together to host the fair, fine-tuning a list of activities to include finger printing, cookie decorating, lunch, games, and demonstrations about nutrition, Head Start programs, infant car seats, bike safety, smoking cessation, day care, CPR, and dental care for children. Door prizes will include baby care equipment, books, and bicycles.
The fair will be sponsored by Great Parents, Great Start and the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District, and will feature information from agencies to include Mackinac Straits Hospital, Michigan State University Extension, Allied EMS, Strong Families, Safe Children, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Luce Mackinac Alger Schoolcraft Health Department, United States Coast Guard, 4C Childcare, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, St. Ignace Fire Department, Mackinac County Water Safety Review Team, and Community Action Head Start.
