Becoming an Outdoors Woman Weekend Set for June 3 to June 5
Michigan women who want to develop their outdoor skills are invited to participate in the Eighth Annual "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" program Friday, June 3, through Sunday, June 5, in Big Bay, 30 miles north of Marquette. Registration space is limited. The program will be at Bay Cliff Health Camp.
Sponsored by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the program offers instruction in more than two dozen kinds of outdoor activities, including kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, archery, birding, recreational and all-terrain vehicle use, Global Positioning Satellite, map and compass use, and several styles of shooting sports. Instructors provide basic and advanced instruction tailored to the participant's individual ability.
The $155 registration fee includes food and lodging, plus most equipment and supplies. Participants will be housed in a new, dormitory style facility with a pool, sauna, tennis courts, hiking and biking trails, and access to Lake Superior.
Becoming an Outdoors Woman workshops are for women 18 and older, who want to learn outdoor skills in a relaxed atmosphere. Workshops are offered every year in different locations. The Upper Peninsula program will include evening programs and bonfires.
