New Home Gets OK on Mackinac Island

The Mackinac Island Planning Commission, at its regular meeting Tuesday, April 12, approved a zoning permit for Tom and Sally McGovern’s construction of a single family home at Forest Ridge Condominium, pending the city’s architectural review.

Before the commissioners approved the McGovern’s project, it first approved a revised site plan and a master deed to combine the undeveloped lots of units six and seven at Forest Ridge Condominiums, by request of owner Susan Lundgren. The two units were then bought by the McGoverns.

The area is zoned R-1. The new home will have a septic system.

The Planning Commission also will recommend that the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals grant Ben and Luann Mosley a variance for a 14-foot variance to build an additional bedroom and sitting area to allow Mr. Mosley’s father to move in with the family.

The Mosley’s plan to replace the front yard deck with a bedroom. Mr. Mosley said he cannot add on to his house from the back yard because it would then infringe on the state-required septic drainfield space.

The Zoning Board of Appeals hearing will be at 5 p.m. Monday, May 2.
