Jessica Duncan To Compete in National Hoops
Jessica Duncan
Jessica Duncan, daughter of Sonja and David Duncan of Cedarville, will compete in the Elks Hoops Shoot National Free Throw Shooting Tournament in Springfield, Massachusetts, Saturday, April 23.
Miss Duncan finished second in the 12-13-year-old division at the state level, but the girl who placed first backed out of the competition, allowing Jessica to advance to the Great Lakes Regionals and represent Michigan against girls from Indiana and Ohio.
Taking advantage of the situation, Jessica made 23 of 25 free throws and tied with a girl from Indiana, but in sudden death match, the Cedarville junior high student connected on four of five, while her opponent made three.
The Duncans had to leave the event early and received word that Jessica won while attending a basketball game at Michigan State University.
Twelve girls advance to the final and will shoot 10 free throws in the first round and 15 in the second, with the overall champion decided from the combined 25 free throws.
