Megan Hunter, standout guard for Coach Dorene Ingalls and the St. Ignace Saints, has decided to study and play basketball at Hope College in Holland, Michigan.
"Were extremely happy to have Megan coming to Hope College," said Head Coach Brian Morehouse. "She comes from a program coached by Dorene and Doug Ingalls that teaches mental toughness and strong work ethics and that is the kind of player we want at Hope College."
"In recruiting athletes we have found that players from the Upper Peninsula know what is takes to play at the next level,” he continued. “They are strong athletes, willing to work hard."
The Flying Dutch compete at the Division III level and are part of the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Conference with Albion, Alma, Adrian, Calvin, Kalamazoo, Olivet, Tri-State, and St. Mary’s.
During the last four years, Hope College has recorded a 112-13 overall record, and over the last nine years with Coach Morehouse at the helm, the women have won 80 percent of their games.
Hunter, who scored 823 career points, 471 for the Saints, received All-Upper honors and will play in the All-Star Classic Saturday, June 11. She was named to the Straits Area All-Conference squad and All-Area team and recently honored by the SAC as one of 16 LaSalle High School seniors receiving All-Academic honors.
Said Megan Hunter: "I like their intensity and up-tempo style of basketball. It is very similar to the Saints’ style."
"Megan will fit in with the style of play at Hope College," said Saints Coach Dorene Ingalls. "She has a great work ethic and that will go a long way with the Flying Dutch."
