Pickford Girls, Boys Win Season Track Openers

Pickford girls and boys captured first place during the first track and field meet of the season at the Panthers track complex Thursday, April 14.

Girls: The Lady Panthers compiled 130 points, followed by Cedarville with 112, Engadine 102, Brimley 94, DeTour 62, and Mackinac Island 6.

Triple winner Caitlin Mortinsen led the Pickford girls with wins in the 100 meter dash in 13.80, 200 in 28.99, and 400 in 1:06.33.

Jessica Ledy won the long jump with a leap of 12' 10" and the pole vault with a height of 8' 0." The Lady Panthers 400 relay team of Renae Reich, Courtney Bruni, Ledy, and Mortinsen placed first in 58.23.

Three Lady Trojans won individual events, led by Lauren Izzard in the 800 meter run in 2:51.45, Liz Reno in the discus with a throw of 92' 5.5", and Kristen Duman in the high hurdles in 19.61, while the Cedarville 3200 relay team won in 11:32.00.

Elica Derusha won the 1600 meter run in 6:21.78 and Shauni Rutledge the shot put with a toss of 29' 5" to lead the Lady Eagles, while Molly McIntyre of Brimley won the high jump with a mark of 4' 9." The Lady Bays finished first with a time of 2:02.34.For DeTour, Liz Lehman won the low hurdles in 57.90 and Amber Burton placed first in the 3200 meter run in 13:47.79.

Boys: Pickford tallied 150 points to win the meet, while Brimley placed second with 128, followed by Cedarville 106.5, Engadine 97, Mackinac Island 18, and DeTour 16.5.

The Panthers won seven events led by a pair of double winners, as Carl Morrison, with victories in the 1600 meter run in 5:38.33 and the 3200 in 1:06.00, and Chris Thompson in the 800 in 2:07.65 and high jump with a mark of 5' 8.”

Curtis Bew won the 100 in 12.4, Toby Kibble won the pole vault with a height of 9' 6.3,” and the Panthers 3200 relay team took first with a time of 9:16.

Josh Winkler led Brimley with victories in the throwing events as the senior won the discus with a throw of 119'2" and the shot put with a toss of 46' 5." Jerrod Dillon won the 200 dash in 25.06. The Bays 400 relay team won in 49.13 and the 800 foursome finished first in 1:41.76.

Engadine was led by Grayson Hood with a pair of wins in the high hurdles in 16.8 and low hurdles in 44.70, while Stefen Albright won the long jump with a leap of 17' 5" and Brad Visser won the 400 in 58.99.
