In the first academic track meet of the year, held at St. Ignace Tuesday, April 12, St. Ignace Middle School defeated Newberry Middle School, 129.5 to 97.5. The St. Ignace team also included students from Gros Cap school in Moran Township.

Individually or as part of a group, 13 students scored at least twice in the top three. Michael Wilk won three events and Kayla Gustin, Katlyn Frantz, and Angela Cena each won two. Miss Cena also had a second-place finish. Ron Robinson had a first, a second, and a third.

Picking up a first and a second were James Halberg, Eric Hinsman, Arielle Kammers, Stefan Saffian, Brad Smith, and Nicole Lanczak. A first and a third went to Chelsea Cowell and Charmaine Dela-Gente.
