Fugitive Arrested in St. Ignace
A fugitive wanted by the U.S. Marshall's Office for eight years was arrested in St. Ignace on the north side of the Mackinac Bridge Tuesday, April 26. The United States Marshall's Office contacted troopers at the St. Ignace Michigan State Police post for assistance after the subject's vehicle was spotted by Mackinaw City Police Department officers at the south end of the bridge.
Richard James Liquia, 30, of Negaunee, was taken into custody after evading arrest since 1997 on Georgia charges including child molestation and failure to appear on possession of marijuana. He was also arrested on Marquette warrants for failing to appear in jail for assault and battery, failure to appear on a drunk driving charge, probation violation, and several other minor charges. He was lodged in the Mackinac County Jail pending pick up by the U.S. Marshall's Office in Marquette.
A passenger in the vehicle, Jason William Patraw, 21, of Negaunee, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana. The driver, Cory Derek Arbellus, 30, of Palmer, was arrested for driving with a license suspended, denied, and revoked. Both men were lodged in the Mackinac County Jail.
