Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Association will learn about a new customer service program and the Eastern Upper Peninsula Nature Tourism Alliance’s (EUPNTA) “Great Waters” tourism project Wednesday, May 4, at the Cedarville Inn.

Angela Nebel of Sault Ste. Marie will present the EUPNTA Great Waters project to members of the boards, and will explain the project’s mission to stimulate the local economy by promoting the area’s natural assets. Area tourism and community leaders are learning that today’s tourists are looking for authentic experiences that are unique to the places they travel. The Eastern Upper Peninsula has bountiful natural resources and a key position between three of the Great Lakes. The Great Waters project is a plan to capitalize on the area’s natural resources by promoting them as a tourist attraction.

Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Association Coordinator Bud Lowers will make a presentation about a customer service training program the Chamber plans to use to train staff at local businesses. The program is based on the FISH Philosophy of customer service used at Seattle’s famous Pike Place Market. EUPNTA members were introduced to the FISH customer service training program in April, and are spreading the philosophy to their respective communities. The goal is to encourage local businesses to provide an unforgettable customer service experience.

If businesses agree to the training program, Mr. Lowers hopes to train employees this summer, and he also wants to introduce the program to local high school juniors and seniors as they enter the workforce.
