Ralph Corrigan
Ralph John Corrigan, 95, formerly of Mackinac Island, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, after many years in a California nursing home.
Mr. Corrigan was born September 5, 1909, on Mackinac Island.
With no high school on the Island at the time, Mr. Corrigan left Mackinac and went to New York, where he worked designing jewelry. He contracted tuberculosis, as many did in those days, but was able to recover. He later took up residence in San Francisco, California, but in the summer he often returned to the Island to his home on Mahoney Avenue. Mr. Corrigan never learned to drive and usually traveled by bus, occasionally visiting his brother and family, John Corrigan, in Garden City.
He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Margaret, in 1942 and his older brother, John, in 1982.
He is survived by his nephews, John, Michael, Anthony, and Robert Corrigan and their families.
His ashes will be returned to Mackinac Island for burial in the family plot in Ste. Anne’s Cemetery.
