Elizabeth Methner
Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Methner of Pickford was teacher for 34 years. She taught at several different schools around Michigan, the Upper Peninsula, the Traverse City area, in DeTour, and then in Pickford from which she retired in 1971.
Mrs. Methner was 98 when she died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida.
She was born March 2, 1907 in Ironwood, Michigan to Henry and Anna (nee Olds) Eplett.
She grew up in Ironwood, then earned a teaching certificate at the former Normal Teachers College (now Northern Michigan University) in Marquette. She later earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing.
She married Henry Amos Methner September 27, 1940.
She had been living in Pickford, but spent each winter in Clearwater, Florida. She was a member of the Pickford Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and the Donovan Park Choir in Florida.
An avid reader, Mrs. Methner also enjoyed fishing, gardening, knitting, and working on crossword puzzles. Her family said they enjoyed many happy memories of times they spent with Mrs. Methner.
Mrs. Methner is survived by many nieces and nephews, including those closest to her: Ann Shannon, Michael Shannon, Katherine Foley, Patricia Hammond, David Eplett, Ralph Eplett, Ann Slanzi, Marilyn Nygard, Cleland Methner, and Jean Valley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1993, and nine siblings: Henry Eplett, Viola Hammel, Verona Shannon, Ruth Fleischmann, Dell Eplett, Norman Eplett, and three others who died during childhood.
Services were Monday, May 2, at the Pickford Presbyterian Church in Pickford. The Reverend Ron Bown officiating.
Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township.
