Katherine Ruegg, Dan Traynor Complete LSSU Science Projects
Students in the Lake Superior State University School of Biological Sciences completed research studies by presenting senior projects in April to an annual Senior Research Symposium.
Katherine Ruegg of St. Ignace presented a study in magnetism and fruit fly development.
Dan Traynor of Goetzville presented a study in wild and hatchery chinook salmon in the Carp River.
The senior thesis is the capstone experience for all students in biology at the university. Students choose a topic, design a study, collect and analyze data, write a scientific paper, and present the information to the university community and the public. Projects typically take an entire year to design and complete, and address practical issues of local biological and environmental concerns.
