The school record setter and Division II Upper Peninsula state champion in the discus has recorded a career high throw of 119' 7.5" in the event and personal best toss of 30' 0" in the shot put during the early part of this season.
"We are excited to have a student-athlete with the academic and athletic ability of Katie," said Albion coach Hayden Smith. "After meeting Katie, she is very much like Micaela Kelso, another LaSalle High grad and a senior at Albion, who also throws the shot and discus. They are both cream of the crop with their academics and athletics."
Ms. Spencer will throw the shot and discus and will add the javelin to her individual events. The weight in the shot and discus are the same for high school and college women throwers.
Albion, a Division III college with an enrollment of 1,800, is part of the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) the oldest conference (formed March 24, 1888) in the nation that includes Alma, Hope, Adrian, Olivet, Tri-State, St. Mary's, and Kalamazoo.
"Albion is receiving an outstanding student-athlete," said Saints track coach Diane Huskey. "Katie has worked extremely hard to make herself a better thrower. She has improved the effort from her freshman season to her senior year and just recently set the school record in the discus."
