U.P. Track Records Still Held by Area Athletes

Eastern Upper Peninsula athletes hold 34 Upper Peninsula Track and Field records, separated from 1925 to 2000 and 2001 to the present after the 2005 finals.

The most prestigious mark is held by John Payment of Brimley with a statewide record in the high jump of 7'1" that was set in 1989.

St. Ignace athletes have 14 records that include John Currie (1983) the 1600 run in 4:28.6; Colleen Colegrove (1986) the 200 in 26.2; 1995 girls 400 relay team in 51.8; Richelle Robinson (1996) the 400 in 59.2; Anna Pemble (1996) the 100 in 12.7; 1996 girls 1600 relay team in 4:09.9; Holly Brown (1997) long jump with a leap of 17'5.5"; Aaron Litzner (1998) 3200 run in 9:49.84; Eryn Mercer (2001) the 100 in 12.87 and the 200 in 26.62; Kate Ruegg (2001) pole vault with a height of 9'0"; 2001 girls 800 relay team in 1:48.61; Nick Adams (2003) the 800 in 2:02.00; Katie Spencer (2005) the discus with a throw of 115'9.25."

The records esbablished by John Currie and Aaron Litzner were when the Saints were Class D.

John Andrzejak (1978) holds the oldest individual record for Pickford in the pole vault with a height of 13'3"; the 1978 boys 400 relay team in 45.0; Julie Wallis (1988) 1600 run in 5:25.3; Ryan Fountain (1993) the shot put with a toss of 55'1" and the discus with a throw of 163'1"; Jill Rairigh (1996) the discus with a throw of 119'5"; Ashley Bishop (2001-02) the shot put with a toss of 42'5" and the discus with a throw of 114'3"; the 2001 girls 3200 relay team in 10:35.00; the girls 800 relay foursome in 1:52.4, and the 2002 girls 1600 relay team in 4:22.93.

Tim Freebury (1976) the 400 dash in 51.0 holds the oldest individual record; the 1980 boys 1600 relay team in 3:31.8; the 1996 boys 3200 relay foursome in 10:15.15. The next three records are held by Kara Scherer (1991) when Cedarville and DeTour were part of a co-op program. The Trojans sprinter holds the records marking the 100 in 12.6, the 200 in 26.0, and the 400 in 58.8.

Brent Malaski (2002) of Rudyard holds the 1600 run with a time of 4:35.53 and the Bulldogs 1986 boys 3200-relay team with a time of 8:26.4.
