Mackinaw City Seniors Share Top Athletic Awards
Mackinaw City seniors Kourtney Milne and Virginia Alexander received the Jack Staffan Award for Sportsmanship and Character during the annual banquet to honor the athletes at Mackinaw City High School Wednesday, May 11.
Miss Milne, co-captain on the basketball team, received the Coach’s Award and was named Most Improved Player during the volleyball season, while Miss Alexander was named Most Valuable Player on the volleyball team and co-captain on the basketball squad.
Girls Basketball: Betsie Frye received Hard Working and Defensive Awards, Most Assists and Steals, and Top Field Goal Percentage, Erin Sullivan Most Improved Player and Top Field Goal Percentage, Meredith Neuman Most Rebounds, Kourtney Milne Most Blocked Shots, and Caitlin Spencley Top Free Throw Percentage.
Boys Basketball: Morgan Paquet was named Most Valuable Player and received the Paint Protector Award, Seth Strong Most Improved Player, Logan Paquet Defensive Award, Chase Closs Playmaker Award, Dane Curth Hard Working Award, and Philip Gilman Sixth Man Award.
Volleyball: Meredith Neuman received the Top Scorer Award, Katie Smydra and Erin Sullivan Team Spirit Award, Kristen Darrow Most Versatile, Whitney Newsome Super Sub, Erin Sullivan Most Digs, and Kourtney Milne Most Blocks.
Cross Country: Team captain Morgan Paquet recorded a school record time of 16:30 at the Comets home course and tied with Dane Curth for Most Miles, with 222.
Ciara McVey earned the Biggest Improvement with a time of 5:49, Logan Paquet with Freshmen School Record time of 17:38, and Klaus Jaggi Personal Best Time.
