Visnaw-Matson Team Claims Golf Tourney
Jo Jo Visnaw and Chris Matson of St. Ignace carded 18 under par 63-63 (126) to claim the 36-hole championship of the 29th Annual St. Ignace Two-Person Golf Scramble Friday, June 3, to Sunday, June 5.
Ben Brown and John McKinnon of St. Ignace fired 66-63 (129) to finish second in the first flight, defending champions Jerry Bush and Bill Frazier of Petoskey recorded 65-65 (130) for third place, and Sean Tallaire and Scott Winkelman of St. Ignace tallied 64-68 (132) to finish fourth.
Mark Bunker and Rob Scruton of Mackinac Island won the second flight with 69-65 (134), while Barry O'Connor and Josh Clegg of Pickford placed second with 73-65 (138). The father and son team of Duck (Sault Ste. Marie) and Ducky (St. Ignace) Smith finished third with 70-70 (140), and Tom Coveyou and Jimbo Musick of St. Ignace took fourth with 70-70 (140).
Mort Becker and Ed Lester Jr. of St. Ignace won the third flight after recording a 71-66 (137). Vance Barber of Pickford and Ken Wilke of DeTour registered 71-68 (139) for second place. Chip Autore and Bing Garland of Cedarville charted 71-68 (139) for third place, and Lloyd Matson and Victor Matson of St. Ignace placed fourth with 72-69 (141).
Chum and Rich Frazier of St. Ignace captured the fourth flight after registering a 74-70 (144), Ron Thompson and Kurt Yacuone fired 74-76 (150) for second place, N. Bowerman and J. Maleport took third with a 75-76 (151), and Lee Hovey of Rudyard and Jerry Wartella of Sault Ste. Marie tallied 76-75 (151) for fourth place.
Thirty-six teams competed in the tourney, while in the special events Barry O'Connor recorded the longest drive on number one, Joe Visnaw closest to the pin on number seven, and Rob Scruton the longest putt on number four.
