The summer weather continues on and on.
Jackie Rippett, along with her daughter, Denise Sokal, her granddaughter, Kara Sokal, and a cousin, Barb Moss, all enjoyed a girls-only weekend in Marquette. They attended Art on the Rocks and area attractions.
Our condolences to Linda Gee, a condominium neighbor of Jackie and Dennie Rippett, on the passing of her father, who lived in Marquette.
Sam Raymer and Cynthia Harrington were married last weekend at their lovely log home on Wildwood Lane overlooking Lake Michigan. Sam is from Grand Rapids and Cynthia is from Novi and is a teacher in the Novi School System. Guests were friends and relatives from downstate. Best wishes to Sam and Cynthia.
I spotted Lawrence O’Boyle riding a shiny new Schwinn bicycle on Church Road this morning.
Sharon Smith hosted a gathering at her motel Thursday evening, July 28. Guests included Beatrice Zak, Nancy Smith, Gayle Lamoreaux, Joyce Gustafson, Carol Faye Watson, and Pega Kennedy.
Sunday evening, July 31, Gayle and Charlie Lamoreaux hosted a family of Russian singers traveling through the state giving concerts. Later that evening Carol Faye and John Watson, Sharon and Ken Smith, Pega Kennedy, Joyce and Tom Gustafson, Dottie Glashaw, Nancy and Norm Smith, Phyllis and Ed Massey, and Pastor Tari and Kurt Stage-Harvey and children enjoyed dessert and an impromptu concert on the deck of the Lamoreaux home.
Pega and John Kennedy hosted a cookout at their home on Wildwood Lane Tuesday evening. Guests were Mildred Gustafson, Tom and Joyce Gustafson, Michael Gustafson, John and Carol Faye Watson, Ken and Sharon Smith, John and Beatrice Zak, Charlie and Gayle Lamoreaux, Megan Gustafson, and Denny White.
Mildred Gustafson, Carol Faye Watson, Tom Gustafson, and Pega Kennedy attended the funeral of Meade Hart Saturday, July 30.
Lorie and Joe Stewart, along with Dodger and Striker, the new cocker spaniel pups, all of Fort Myers, Florida, are vacationing at the home of Lorie’s mother, Lee Quigley.
Jimica Diamond, of Brevort, a minister-shaman, will perform wedding services for Rebecca Zinn and Michael Fawcette. Rebecca is formerly of Alma and Michael is from Long Island, New York. The ceremony is to be spiritual and universal and will take place on the pier in St. Ignace at 5 p.m. Friday, August 5. Ms. Diamond said this is not to be confused with a Native American ceremony, although she will have native adornments on her dress. She is affiliated with a Cherokee Native American tribe. The couple will reside in the area, as both work on Mackinac Island.
Sunday, July 31, Pat and Ted Lebutzki helped celebrate the birthday of their grandson, Michael Metive. Their granddaughter, Emily Gordent, and friends visited with Pat and Ted, then ventured off to see the Pictured Rocks, Tahquamenon Falls, and the Soo Locks.
Campers at Brevoort Lake Campground reported to Brian Rose that they made a wrong turn to get back to the campgrounds and observed a small black bear crossing the road.
The Hagen family reunion was held two weeks ago at Washington Island, on the tip of the Door Peninsula in Wisconsin. Local representatives from the Charlie Hagen branch were Thora and Jack Shepard and their son, Lee Foster; Patti Truman and Melissa Foster; Sally and Leonard Valentine and Sally’s children and their families; Jim and Mimi Gustafson; Chris Hagen and her daughter and her family; and Carla McNamee’s daughter, Sue, and her husband, Daryl Huffman. There were 20 relatives and extended family members from the Charlie Hagen side of the family. From the Jule Hagen family were Anne Anderson; Louise and Jim Hodgson and boys of Brainerd, Minnesota; Bill and Julie Anderson and boys of Egan, Minnesota; Eric Anderson of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and Lynne and Roger VanDok of Arvada, Colorado. Anne had said that Charlie Hagen always seems to beat out the Jule Hagen bunch as far as numbers go. History shows that Jule Hagen and his brother, Charlie Hagen, came to St. Ignace from Washington Island in 1923 and set up a successful fishing business.
Dave and I went to the funeral of Gretchen Graham in New Hudson Wednesday, July 27. Her aunt, Claudia Wiseman, and her cousins, Amanda Green and Rachael Green, gave wonderful remembrances of their times with Gretchen.
The rest of the week was spent with Miss Amanda Movalson, her brother, Zach, and their parents, Eric and Kelli Movalson, in Howell and, of course, Hershey, Reese, and Snickers. Birthdays were celebrated with gifts of “My Little Pony” and a fire engine with seats for two that squirts water at a distance.
We visited Andy Movalson at his home, near Perry. The property is the home of many deer and turkeys and lots of conifers for them to sneak around.
Kurt Knowles reported in-depth the events of the gathering he and Mikkie hosted for the Michigan Association of County Clerks. Mikkie works with stained glass and she made a glass window of a flag design for a door prize. Our own county clerk, Mary Kay Tamlyn, was the lucky winner.
For a day of relaxation, Kurt and Mikkie picnicked at Split Rock, a local attraction of Brevort. They had never been there and were amazed that such a neat place existed so close to Brevort.
Tom and Laurel Kennedy, who live near Chicago, are at their home on Wildwood Lane this week.
Happy anniversary to Willie and Donna LaLonde August 1.
Happy birthday to Zach Movalson August 3 and Dave Movalson Jr. August 8.
