Walter Price

Walter Price, a lifelong resident of Engadine, worked for 50 years as a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. He was a charter member of Farm Bureau, a member of the Engadine and Newberry Lions Club, and a former member of the Garfield Township Ambulance Corps.

Mr. Price was 89 when he died Sunday, July 31, 2005, at the Luce County Annex in Newberry, where he had been a resident since November, 2004.

He was born April 6, 1916, in Engadine, to Gottlieb and Olga (nee Friedensdorf) Price. He married the former Ethel Bessler August 30, 1941, in Engadine. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine, where he served as a chairperson for 40 years. He also was a church elder and Sunday school teacher for several years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, photography, and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three children and their families, Janet and Charles Huff of Hawaiian Gardens, California, June Price of Engadine, and Walt and Joann Price of Chandler, Arizona; two grandchildren, Lance and Ryan Huff; a brother and his family, Osker and Midge Price of Newberry; three sisters and their families, Bert Kramer of West Palm Beach, Florida, Wanda and John Powell of Alpena, and Elsie Pershinske of Newberry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Ed Price, Erna McNeill, Martha Sinkus, and Leona Summers.

Services will be Friday, August 5, at 11 a.m., at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Engadine. Pastor Arthur Bode will officiate.

Friends may call at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Interment will follow at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.

Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry assisted in the family with arrangements.
