Canada Wildfires Bring Smoke to U.P.

Winds from the north are blowing smoke and haze from Canadian wildfires into northern regions of the Upper Peninsula, reported Ann Wilson, communications director for the Department of Natural Resources at Marquette.
“We are getting lots of calls from citizens, especially in the northern part of the Upper Peninsula, complaining of a smell of smoke and a haze in the air,” Ms. Wilson said August 17. “Indeed, smoke has been blowing into the U.P. from Canada, where a number of large fires are burning.”
Unless there is a very strong smell of smoke or a visible smoke plume, it is not likely that the smoke is emanating from a fire in the local area, the DNR reported.
