LaSalle Gymnasium Floor Gets Face-Lift
Dave Danielson and Randy Gustin, St. Ignace Area Schools employees, put the stencils down for the center court lettering on the Saints’ new gym floor. The letters were later painted in Vegas Gold.
LaSalle High School (LHS) gymnasium floor is more than 40 years old and received a face-lift during the summer months as part of the $1.2 million renovation project in the high school.
Weiss Construction removed the old floor and Bay Area Interior of Grand Rapids installed the new floor, but not without some delays. Moisture barrier had to be ordered, causing a slight delay before the project was back on track.
Basketball fans will notice a slight difference in the floor design, which includes solid black free throw lanes with the running S painted in Vegas gold, while the center court will have LHS - Home of the Saints around the circle, and the words St. Ignace on the stage end-line and Saints on the opposite end-line.
Dave Danielson and Randy Gustin, school employees, put the finishing touch on the center logo during the second week of August and the gym floor will be ready for the Saints girls season.
The old center circle running “S” was saved and will be auctioned off at the All-Class Reunion scheduled for 2008, while pieces of the floor can still be purchased by calling the school at 643-8145.
