USDA Seeks Assistance for Hurricane Survivors

Rural Development has 1,700 vacant apartment units and 15 houses available throughout the state that are available rent free for up to six months to victims of Hurricane Katrina who have relocated to Michigan.

Food stamps will soon be available for these families, and Rural Development is seeking partnerships with local community and faith-based organizations to provide social services to dislocated families.

Rural Development has already placed families in northern Michigan and is seeking the public’s help to identify and assist others affected by this disaster.

To assist, contact Jason Church at (800) 944-8119 or (517) 324-5217.
