Gros Cap School Welcomes Two New Teachers

Mary Cullen (left) and Amy Lester are new teachers welcoming young students to Gros Cap School this fall. Two new teachers are at Gros Cap School in Moran Township this fall. Mary Cullen teaches 14 students in kindergarten and first grade and Amy Lester teaches 20 students in fourth and fifth grades.

“I love it,” said Mrs. Cullen. “The youngest students are happy to learn everything and eager to be at school.”

Mrs. Cullen, a 1999 graduate of LaSalle High School, is the daughter of Fred Paquin and Wanda Paquin of St. Ignace. She replaces longtime kindergarten teacher Lucy Evashevski, who retired this spring. While enrolled at Lake Superior State University, Mrs. Cullen worked as an intern at the school during the last school year.

She is married to Richard Cullen, originally of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who is a police officer with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. The couple expects their first child in November.

Mrs. Lester is also a graduate of LaSalle High School, earning her diploma in 1998. She is the daughter of Janice Steiner and Roger Schlehuber of St. Ignace. She previously worked as a preschool teacher at the St. Ignace Cooperative Nursery.

She is married to Ed Lester Jr. of St. Ignace, who works in building construction. The couple is renovating a home in St. Ignace.

Gros Cap School includes students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
