The St. Ignace News about three homes on South State Street that had once been moved from Fibron Quarry, a reader shared with the newspaper some of the history of her home, at 460 South State Street in St. Ignace (at the “Y” of the road). The home was one of four moved to St. Ignace from the military base in Raco in the early 1940s, owner Judy Gross said. The small house originally included three bedrooms, but no bathroom, indicating its use before the days of universal indoor plumbing. The four homes that were moved include those at 460, 400, and 430 State Street, and a larger home at 120 Fitch Street. Gus Dumas of St. Ignace may have been hired to move the houses to town, she said.

The home at 120 Fitch Street was a former administration building at the military base, said current owner Bruce Dodson. The four homes were bought by Carl Graham, who owned a glassworks in St. Ignace at the time. Merle and Geraldine Lambertson, who had the Red Owl grocery store in town, became the owners of 120 Fitch Street, and remodeled the house extensively, Mr. Dodson said.
