Eagles Suffer Non-League Defeats

Engadine dropped a pair of non-conference games to Menominee 53-42 Saturday, September 10, and to Rapid River 47-30 Tuesday, September 6.
Elicia Derusha led the Eagles with 21 points. Desi Derusha and Tristina Browning both chipped in five, Shauni Rutledge tallied four, Nicole Benoit, Christina Emery, and Whittney Kerridge notched two apiece, and Rose Paquin charted one.
The inside scoring of the Maroons was the key as Jamie LaCanne scored 21 points, Leah Francour chipped in 14, Amy Hofer added seven, Kara Hines notched six, and Lauren Francour marked two.
The Eagles led 5-0 early in the first eight minutes before Menominee cut the margin to 9-8. In the second quarter, the Maroons’ inside offense took control with 15 of 17 points to take a 25-21 halftime advantage.
The Derusha girls, Elicia with eight points and Desi with five, lifted the Eagles to a 13-12 scoring edge in the third quarter to cut the Maroons lead to 37-34 after three quarters.
Free throws played a factor in the final eight minutes as Menominee outscored Engadine 16-8, with nine coming from the charity stripe.
At Rapid River, the Rockets took control early on with a 14-6 margin after the first eight minutes and 11-3 in the second quarter for a 25-9 halftime lead. The Rockets held a 22-21 scoring edge in the second half.
Shauni Rutledge scored 17 points, Elicia Derusha added 10, and Whittney Kerridge chipped in three for the Eagles.
Lauren Marshall scored 17 points and Michelle Hall added 10 for the Rockets.
