Pellston Airport To Receive $1 Million Improvement Grant

Pellston Regional Airport in Emmet County will receive $1,159,000 from the Department of Transportation.

Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced Thursday, September 29, that the funding would be used to acquire land for development and to make major improvements to the facility.

The land purchase included in the project is required in order to move forward with the construction of an airport access road to the airport terminal.

The project also includes the purchase of snow removal equipment and the expansion of the terminal building. Funding will enable an airport master plan study to update the layout of the facility required to identify existing conditions and future developments for the airport.

"Rural airports like Pellston are essential to the necessary business and personal travel that occurs in and around smaller communities," Mr. Stupak said. "Having an exceptional facility and the proper equipment to keep travelers safe, while also working to improve services, will only make Pellston that much more critical to surrounding communities."
