Derusha Sets Rebounding School Record in Victory
The trio of Shauni Rutledge, Elicia Derusha, and Nicole Benoit combined for 50 points to lift Engadine to a 60-50 non-conference win over Mid Peninsula Thursday, October 27.
Rutledge scored 19 points, Derusha added 18 points and a school record of 24 rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots, and Benoit chipped 13. Ashley King and Sally Schroeder shared the previous school record of 21 rebounds.
Kristyn Emery and Desi Derusha notched four each and Rose Paquin tallied two to round out the scoring for the Eagles.
After an emotional win over Cedarville Tuesday, October 25, the Eagles came out strong with a 19-8 advantage in the first quarter.
"We came out on fire, but had a little letdown in the second quarter," said Eagles Coach Joel Schultz. "After the win at Cedarville I expected a little drop, but the girls came back and played strong in the second half."
Mid Peninsula outscored Engadine 20-10 in the second quarter to cut the Eagles lead to 29-28 at halftime, before the Green and Gold outscored the Wolverines 31-22 in the second half to post the win.
