Saints Defense Sparks Victory Over Gaylord

Seniors Ashley St. Louis and Krista LaVake combined for 26 points to lead St. Ignace to a 44-26 non-conference win over Gaylord Tuesday, October 25.
St. Louis scored 16 points, five rebounds, four steals, and three assists. LaVake added 10 points and five assists. Kelsey Cryderman chipped in eight points, six boards, and three steals, Jenny Massaway notched five points, Jessica McGinnis and Sam Wyers both tallied two, and Joelle Sword charted one point and eight rebounds.
Both teams scored nine points during the first eight minutes before the Saints outscored the Blue Devils 13-4 in the second quarter for a 22-13 halftime advantage as St. Louis scored eight and LaVake chipped in six during the first two quarters.

St. Ignace, 5-12 on the season, continued to control Gaylord with a 14-5 margin in the third quarter as St. Louis scored six, and in the final eight minutes both teams scored eight points as the Saints went six for six from the free throw line.
The Saints scored 12 field goals, three triples and 17 of 25 from the free throw line, while the Blue Devils made 11 field goals, one trey, and three of nine from the charity stripe.

St. Ignace junior varsity improved to 8-9 on the season after a 64-52 win over Gaylord as Amanda Coveyou scored 22 points, Sunny Cole added 10, Marcie Rickley chipped in nine, Jessica Massaway notched six, Stacee Schnicke and Desi Nordstrand tallied four each, Anna Krause charted three, and Alyssa Pechta and Kayla Gustin marked two apiece.
