Rexton-Garnet

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The kids’ lists keep getting longer, as do those lines at the checkouts. It seems like it’s coming upon us really fast, and it will be over in a heartbeat.
The activities penciled in on the calendar are starting to overlap.
Thanksgiving dawned windy and snowy and at the top of the thankful list was a safe journey for those who either came or went. At our house our youngest, Andy, journeyed north from Grand Rapids for a little turkey, football, and dirt cake, that being the favorite choice for dessert as opposed to the pumpkin pie. Other folks sharing the big bird at the home of Evelyn and Dale Burgess were daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Ken Huyghe, and children, Kayla, Kennady, and Jacob, who returned home to New Baltimore Sunday.
Mary Ellen Stephenson was a guest at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Mike Kolomitz of Lake Orion.
While last-minute grocery shopping after work Wednesday, I happened on the folks from Hubie’s Place, who were expecting a large group to follow them north for the holiday. Ron and Frances Jones were joined by Ron’s brother and wife, Jerry and Margie Jones, who are here from Haines City, Florida. On Monday, Ron and Frances are heading there for the winter. Ah, blue skies and sunshine daily, or at least weekly.
Nice to see Sue Bazen and her children here as well, enjoying the holiday with their up-north family.
Rosie Prater is assisting in the recovery from surgery of her grandson, Shawn, who had his neck broken in an accident a few weeks ago.
Penny Browning with her daughters, Tristina and Shannon, spent time down state with Penny’s sister over the holidays.
A light in the home of JoAnn Kinkella, tucked in by her dad, Lee Kerridge, indicates a holiday get away.
Down Epoufette way, Diane Reinhold is feeling blessed following the arrival of her son, Aaron Rinitz and his friend Nicole of Rochester, as well as brother Alan Ciesielczyk and wife Marie, who made the trek from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The entry into the driveway caused her heart to skip a few beats as an accident was averted right before her eyes. US-2 continues to be one treacherous road, as many folks traveling it always seem to want to be to their destination yesterday, and do not allow for the elements.
This issue will be on the news stands before the final outcome is determined for the Lady Engadine Eagles and the team from Ewen Trout Creek. Whether they win or lose, the girls have become everyone’s daughters and have captured the hearts of each and every fan. If you have had the chance to see them play in the regular season or the post season, you would have sensed immediately the team spirit with which they play. These young ladies are not only great athletes, but great role models. They are active in their community, school, and churches and as they say, it’s not if you win, it’s how you play the game. They make everyone proud of how they play the game. Congratulations to each and every one, and to their coaches for sharing in the dream and helping the Eagles fly.
The Rexton Mennonite Church Ladies Sewing Circle will be having a bake sale along with the craft show this coming Saturday in the Engadine High School gym.
In the soft white silence of winter with an occasional train whistle, the bells are once again ringing out in promise at the church. They have been repaired, as near as I can gather, in memory of Dorothy Paquin and her brother, Bob Browning.
Jeannie Donovan carved turkey at her house for her aunt, Darlene Belleville, and uncle, Ken Browning, and they were joined by Mick Lasley and Darrin Browning from out of town.
Birthday wishes to young Hayden Gregory Livermore November 29, and our resident princess, Josie Fosdick, December 1, along with Engadine’s favorite hair dresser, Dawn Berry, and our nephew, Nathan Livermore. To Lynn Moore of Garlynn Zoo December 3 and Daryl Browning, our own Mr. Basketball, December 4.
Ron and Cindy Pongracz enjoyed the company of their children Dani and Ronnie for the Thanksgiving holiday. Now it’s back to work for everyone.
The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe Elders of Naubinway will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, November 30, at the pavilion. Potluck begins at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.
