St. Ignace-DeTour Bike Trail Proposed
Clark Township’s Bike Path Committee will host a meeting Tuesday, December 6, to bring together local, state, and national representatives who may have interest in a bicycle and pedestrian trail from St. Ignace to DeTour. Youth representatives from local schools and youth groups, natural resource managers, and conservancies are also expected to come to the meeting.
The public meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Clark Township Hall and is being held mostly to determine if there are similar efforts in the area, and whether there are people or agencies who want to collaborate on the project.
The Clark Township Bike Path Committee is headed by Lucky Ingram and Julye McGreevy and has met several times since the summer, establishing a mission statement, vision, and goals.
The group is working with National Park Service employee Barbara Nelson-Jameson, who works on the Parks Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program. Ms. Nelson-Jameson travels throughout the Midwest and works with community groups on open space preservation, including trailways, greenways, and parks planning.
The committee has also been joined at every meeting by David Rusch, a development engineer from the Michigan Department of Transportation.
In Clark Township, according to committee member Jessie Hadley, the tentative name of the trail is “North Huron Pathway,” and it would run along M-134, from Point Brulee Road to Albany Bay.
