Two Northern Michigan Teams Capture Titles

Two Northern Michigan football teams captured state championships as Traverse City St. Francis defeated Unionville-Sebewaing 28-14 for the Division 7 crown and Kingsley downed Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central 31-21 for the Division 6 title.

Crystal Falls-Forest Park, the lone Upper Peninsula squad, fell to Mendon 25-13 in the Division 8 game, while Coach Charlie Otlewski and his Haslett Vikings were defeated by Caledonia 27-6 in the Division 3 contest.

Rockford upended Canton 31-21 for the Division 1 title, Birmingham Brother Rice edged out Hudsonville 14-7 in Division 2, Flint Powers Catholic downed Grand Rapids Catholic 17-10 in Division 4, and Muskegon Oakridge won Division 5 with a 42-28 win over Jackson Lumen Christi.
