Rudyard Beaten in Region Semifinal

Rudyard suffered through a tough fourth quarter at the offensive end that led to a 52-33 setback at the hands of Negaunee during the Class C regional semifinals at Marquette High School Monday, November 21.
Corine Ross notched 15 points to lead Rudyard, which finished the season with a 14-9 overall record. Dana VanSloten added eight, Kelli Koivisto chipped in six, and Megan Rogers and Aimee Doyle both tallied two.
Ally Ticnknell scored 20 points and Ashley Moore and Emily Garceau chipped in 10 each for the Miners.
Negaunee, 13-10 on the season, led 30-20 at halftime before VanSloten and Koivisto scored to open the second half and cut the Negaunee lead to 30-26.
Ross scored three points following a Negaunee two-point field goal for a 32-29 score, but during the remainder of the game the Miners outscored the Bulldogs 20-3 to post the win.
Negaunee held a 12-10 scoring edge after the first eight minutes and increased the lead to 10 at halftime with an 18-10 advantage in the second quarter.
Dana VanSloten Rudyard scored 12 field goals, one trey, and eight of 14 from the free throw line and Negaunee made 19 field goals, four triples, and four of eight from the charity stripe.
Seniors wearing the Black and Orange uniforms for the final time were Dana VanSloten, Aimee Doyle, Courtney Mesnard, and Alisha Peake.
