Mandi Johnson Wins GLIAC Honor

Mandi JohnsonMandi Johnson Mandi Johnson, LaSalle High School graduate, was named North Division Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Player of the Week. The junior at Lake Superior State University (LSSU) led the Lakers to two victories during the first weekend of the season November 18 and 20.

Johnson scored 22 points in the Lakers 80-75 win over Lewis and added 16 as LSSU defeated Wisconsin-Parkside, 75-64. She shot 68 percent from the field during the two- games. The Lakers, ranked 21st nationallly, then won the Ashland Thanksgiving Classic this past weekend, beating Quincy and Ashland to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Johnson continued to stand out, scoring 22 points in the 79-72 victory over Quincy and 10 points, seven assists and five steals in the 85-51 win over Ashland. She is leading her team at 17.5 points a game

Johnson played on both St. Ignace state championship teams in 1999 and 2000. Her sister, Randi, played on the 1999 team and both played at LSSU, with Randi completing her eligibility last year as the team advanced to the second round of the Great Lakes Regional.
