Moran Township to Begin Running Gros Cap Elections

2005-12-29 / News

Candidates will vie for two seats on the Moran Township School board of education in an election May 2, for the expiring terms of Ed Radecki and Helen Graichen. Ms. Graichen, who serves as board secretary, said she most likely will run again. Mr. Radecki could not be contacted for this story.

The Moran Township school district includes Gros Cap School, which educates students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Superintendent Bill Peltier said that both trustees have done an excellent job.

“I want to help keep the district going,” said Ms. Graichen, “to keep it progressive and to continue helping with the education of Moran Township kids.”

The law governing the terms of school board members changed last year, Mr. Peltier said. Previously, terms were variable, but now all board terms are four years. The change is intended to cut election costs.

Schools will no longer run their own elections, either, he added. The upcoming Gros Cap school election will be run by Moran Township Clerk Kris Vallier.

Residents of the township interested in running for the school board must first notify the school, Ms. Vallier said, and have a petition signed by a minimum of five, and a maximum of 10, community members. An affidavit of identity is required, also. These forms are available at the Moran Township hall.

Affidavits and petitions are due by April 2.
