Five Players in Double Figures as Trojans Down Eagles

Jordan Duncan Cedarville Jordan Duncan Cedarville Balanced scoring is always a key to success, as five players scored in double figures to lift Cedarville to an 89-68 Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference (EUPC) win over Engadine Tuesday, December 20.

Sophomore Jordan Duncan scored 21 points that included three treys to lead the Trojans offense. Jordan Sweeney added 20 points, four steals, and three assists, Cory Wellnitz chipped in 17 points and five rebounds, Matt Hansen notched 12 points, six boards, and two assists, Justin Baker tallied 11 points and three assists, Nathan Smith charted six points, three steals, and three rebounds, and Jason Duncan marked two points and five rebounds.

"I was pleased with the way we played and that everyone contributed," said Trojans Coach Dave Duncan. "The balanced scoring is a key to any team’s success."

Scott Butkovich scored 19 points and five rebounds and David Derusha added 19 points, five boards, and three assists to lead the Eagles. Stefen Albright chipped in six points and six assists, Grayson Hood notched six points and five boards, Jacob Swider tallied four points and four r e b o u n d s , Doug Fulton charted four points, Sung Hart and Brad Visser marked three each, and Todd Midgyett and Kris Kerbersky both counted two.

Cedarville, 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in the EUPC, scored 20 points or more in each quarter that included a 24-17 advantage after the first eight minutes and increased the lead to 46-32 at halftime, with a 22-15 margin in the second quarter, as Duncan and Sweeney scored 13 points each for Cedarville and Butkovich recorded 16 for Engadine, which fell to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The Trojans outscored the Eagles 43-36 in the second half as five players scored six or more points, led by Wellnitz with 12 points, while Derusha notched 12 for Engadine.

Cedarville won the junior varsity game 63-45 as C.J. Paquin scored 20, Sheldon Tassier added 17, and Kevin Thompson chipped in 10 for the Trojans, while J.J. Troyer tallied 13 and Nathan Butkovich charted 10 for the Eagles.
