Kinross Officers Awarded for Valor

Kinross Correctional Facility has awarded the Michigan Department of Corrections Valor Award to five staff members. The staff recognized for their actions during a potentially dangerous situation were Thomas Hill, Dale Lasecki, Greg Rozelle, James Killips, and Richard Lovegrove. All are members of the Kinross Complex Transportation Unit and are certified Corrections Transportation Officers.

The award was presented to the five staff members for their actions during an escape attempt that took place during transportation from Ionian Maximum Correctional Facility to Alger Correctional Facility, involving maximum security prisoners.

While traveling north on I-75 at Indian River, staff noted suspicious activity among the prisoners and took action to ensure that prisoner restraints were in place. Later during the transport, suspicious activity was observed again and staff drove to the Michigan State Police post at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge, where they received additional back up before entering the bus to reapply restraints to the prisoner involved.

The transportation team was commended for their professional actions.
