William Nye William Hans Charles Nye of Hessel was a carpenter who worked on the Mackinac and International bridges and at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Kinross. He also worked part time as a locksmith. Mr. Nye, known as Bill, was 87 when he died Monday, August 1, 2005, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born March 9, 1918, in Hessel, to William and Selma (nee Johnson) Nye. Mr. Nye was graduated from Cedarville High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. He married Dorothy St. Onge May 1, 1946, in Sault Ste. Marie. He was a charter member of Law-White Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7958, Hessel and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Mr. Nye is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters and their families, Jo Ann and David Schopp of Gaylord, and Lana and Giles Litzner of Cheboygan; one son and his family, Rick and Pat Nye of Hessel; five grandchildren and their families, Marc Schopp, Danielle and Brent Bolin, Tina Nye and Donnie Solomonson, Billy Nye and Katy Litzner; a great-grandchild, Ciara Solomonson, and two brothers and their families, Vernie and Elda Nye of Hessel and Richie and Sadie Nye of Cedarville. Mr. Nye was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Ehle and Iva Ehle; and two brothers, Roy Nye and Lyle Nye. Services were Thursday, August 4, at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. The Law-White Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Hessel participated in the service. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery in Clark Township.
