Fern Dahlgren Named U.P. Legionnaire of Year for 2005

Fern Dahlgren of American Legion Post 71 of Gladstone was named U.P. Legionnaire of the Year for 2005 in June.

Mr. Dahlgren has been a member of the Gladstone post for 49 years, and has been active on every committee. He served as adjutant of the post for 28 years, and twice served as post commander. He was an alternate committeeman of the 11th district and also 11th district commander.

Mr. Dahlgren enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1942 and joined the Naval Reserve in 1946. He joined the Army in 1948, serving until 1952. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954, and served until 1958. From 1963 to 1983, Mr. Dahlgren served in the National Guard, from which he retired as platoon sergeant after 33 years of service to the military.
