Saints Open Cross-Country Season at Cheboygan Meet

The St. Ignace cross country teams opened their season with a tri-meet at Cheboygan Tuesday, August 30.

Gaylord won the boys and girls meet, while the St. Ignace boys took second and the girls placed third.

Don McLeod led the Saints with a sixth place finish in 20:19, followed by Kody King eighth in 20:39, Kaiden Schiemke ninth in 21:10, and Jake Weiss 10th in 21:36. Remaining runners included Nathan Zimmerman in 23:11, Justin Emery in 23:26, and Lewis Steiner in 33:01.

Chelcee Tiernan placed 12th for the Saints in 26:45, Brianne Hetherington 20th in 30:52, Sara Tafelski 21st in 30:53, Kate Springsteen 22nd in 32:05, and Brittney Carlson 25th in 35:08.

Saints at East Jordan Invitational

St. Ignace boys finished seventh out of 11 teams at the Elk Rapids Invitational Wednesday, September 7. The girls, with just four runners (they need five runners), didn't place as a team.

All of the Saints runners recorded bested their times in the Elk Rapids meet compared to the first competition at Cheboygan.

Don McLeod was timed in 18:58, Kody King in 19:30, Justin Emery in 21:18, Nathan Zimmerman in 21:24, Jake Weiss in 21:53, and Lewis Steiner in 32:20.

Chelcee Tiernan completed the course in 23:02, Brianne Hetherington in 24:45, Kate Springsteen in 27:10, and Sara Tafelski in 29:13.
