Mackinac Island fell to Beaver Island during a Northern Lights League weekend soccer series 6-2 Friday, September 9, and 4-2 Saturday, September 10.

During the battle between the only two island high schools in the State of Michigan, the Lakers and Islanders squared off to a 1-1 score at the end of the first half. Beaver Island scored two quick goals to begin the second half that propelled the team to victory.

Ben Mosley scored the Lakers’ two goals and Caleb Straight assisted on both goals, while Riley Chaffee was in goal.

Sam Kamphuis and Caleb Straight scored the goals on Saturday morning, assisted by Ben Mosley, with Michael Gamble in goal. Beaver Island led 2-1 after the first half.

On the defensive side, Tyler McLean, Woody Beardsley, Kate Dupre, Emily St. Onge, Paul Fisher, Gamble, Chaffee, Kamphuis, and Straight played well.

"This was our first competition and I feel we played well at times," said Lakers Coach Ken Straight. "Beaver Island is a tall team with speed and strength. The Islanders are probably the best team in our league."
