January is truly a special time for locally elected school trustees in Michigan. January is the time for school board members to be in the spotlight during National School Board Recognition Month.

School Board Recognition Month is celebrated by 560 local and 57 intermediate school districts in Michigan. Four thousand elected school board members are honored by their schools and communities for untiring dedication to their schools.

The theme for this month is “ School Boards Make Stars Out of Students.” Take this month to thank your local board members: Mary Formolo, Sean Bennett, Terrie Slack, Aaron Fulton, Lester Livermore Jr., Tracy Germain, and Kevin Dennis.

The week of January 16 to 20 is exam week for first semester. First semester ends January 20 with a noon dismissal.

Band Calendars are in and being delivered by band members. If you wish to purchase a band calendar, contact a band member or Band Director Jeremiah Clark at 477-6313. Mr. Clark and the band students appreciate the community’s strong support of the fruit fundraiser.

The monthly school board meeting will be held on January 9 at 7 p.m. in Engadine.
